The new and long-awaited show from Sharon Eyal and her associate Gai Behar, Delay the Sadness, promises to be a virtuosic new variation. A foremost choreographer of the last few years, Sharon Eyal makes each of her pieces a tribute to life.
Sharon Eyal, dancer with the Batsheva Dance Company, then an up-and-coming choreographer of the troupe, and Gai Behar, curator of art events and night-clubber were destined to meet. In 2013, they started their dance company and have continually collaborated to produce ambitious works ever since. These include the widely acclaimed trilogy Love Cycle, commissions for companies such as Nederlands Dans Theater, Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris and GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, not to mention some excursions into fashion and contemporary art. After the memorable Into the Hairy, S-E-D Dance Company returns with Delay the Sadness featuring music by Josef Laimon. The piece is propelled by a group of 8-9 SED dancers who each bring their energy and unique expression to it. “Allowing for a rich interaction between individual and collective movements, building up a dynamic mosaic of relations and interactions, the dancers will be at the core of the piece, their bodies projecting an emotion that transcends words.” Sharon Eyal showcases vibrant bodies and subdued or frantic trances, a taut gestural language exuding the beauty of the moment.
